Tide Bounce Back With Force
Tacoma Tide 4 - 0 Cascade Surge
The Tacoma Tide bounced back from a poor outing in spokane to dominate the Cascade Surge by a score of 4-0. The Tide made Curtis High School Stadium, once again, look like a comfortable home.

The score was 1-0 at halftime on a penalty kick converted by Ruben Orozco late in the 37th minute. The penalty kick came on from a Brayton Knapp cross. Knapp’s left footed cross met the hand of a Surge defender and the official deemed it worth of a hand ball in the box. Whether the call was fair or not, the Tide dominated possession in the half and were deserving of the goal.
The second half was all Tide. Goals poured in from Spencer Schomaker, making his first appearance of the season and Rory Agu. Schomaker scored in the 62nd minute to make the score 2-0, and Rory Agu scored 2 himself before the final whistle. Jordan Jennings, in goal, pitched the shutout.

Tide Shocked in Season Opener
Tacoma Tide 2 - 5 Spokane Spiders

5/9/08   Greyhound Park, Post Falls, ID     7:05pm kickoff

The Tacoma Tide’s first game of 2008 was not a good one. The site was a greyhound stadium converted to soccer facility. The grass field was patchy on rolly hills. The fans were half inside the glass windows and half near the touchline. The pitch was toughly 90 yards long with a width much narrower than normal. This setting is home to the Spokane Spiders, and they looked like it.

Spokane jumped all over Tacoma from the first whistle. Just 13 minutes in, a give-away in the midfield yielded a 1 on 1 with goal keeper Jordan Jennings, and the Tide were down 1-0. Grant Lundberg, a graduate of Gonzaga slotted the shot into the lower left corner. The trouble was not over. Seven minutes later another through ball found a Spider foot and Jay Vela made it 2-0. The Tide were stunned, the Spokane was foaming at the mouth.

Tide Ready Squad For 2008
Open tryouts yield contributing players

The weekend of April 5th and 6th gave a chance for the Tacoma Tide coaching staff to see local talent on display. The team’s Open Try-Outs fielded players from all over the Puget Sound as well as outside the state of washington. In the end, a few players were selected to return and train with the team in the near weeks. Since most of the Tide roster will be available on very short notice before the season opener in Spokane on May 9th, these trial players have a great chance to see time and make an impact in the squad. While there were a number of good performances on the weekend, the top head turner was probably William Kelly. Kelly is just completing his sophomore year at the University of Redlands, where he has played both Center and Outside Midfield positions, under Coach Ralph Perez. Prior to enrolling at Redlands, Will was on the Eastside Red FC U-19 2005 Washington State (WYSL) Champions, and two time (2004 & 2005) Washington State High School Soccer Champions (1A) from University Prep of Seattle. The rest of the Tide’s roster will be released in the coming weeks before the season starts in May.

A section of tryout players receive instruction from Head Coach, Fran O’Brien.
